With coronavirus Covid 19 popping up all over the news and social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and elsewhere, people are creating much anxiety in themselves, which is never good during either clear or uncertain circumstances.

An example of this is panic buying - which has been rife around the globe in wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Customers have been stockpiling goods like hand sanitizer, bottled water, canned goods, paper towels and toilet paper in Rhode Island, and all over the world.

Psychologists explain this phenomenon as "retail therapy," defined as when, where, and what we buy to better manage our emotional state. Experts suggest that the answer may lie in a fear of the unknown and believing that dramatic events warrant a dramatic response - even though in this case covid 19, the best response to coronavirus is something as simple as washing your hands for 20 seconds.

What's more is that this anxiety to the covid 19 pandemic can actually weaken an immune system, making some people more susceptibility to infection and sickness. Here are a few tips and pointers to help you keep yourself healthy during these times.

STAY HYDRATED:
Increasing your water intake will help you stay healthy and lessen the chance of you coming down with a sickness or virus. When you are feeling under the weather, drinking extra fluids prevents dehydration caused by fever, loosens mucus, and keeps your throat moist. Warm liquids are preferable, and there is some evidence that inhaling steam early in the course of a sickness may reduce the spread of viruses in your upper respiratory tract.

EXERCISE REGULARLY:
Not only can regular exercise lower stress, but research indicates that exercise can stimulate the immune system and promote healthy sleep. In a study reported in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, scientists found that modest exercise may prevent the elderly from getting colds and flu.

EAT A HEALTHY DIET RICH IN VITAMINS C AND E:
Foods containing these vitamins are believed to help support the immune system. Foods rich in vitamin E include sunflower and corn oils, sunflower seeds, and nuts such as almonds and peanuts. You can get your daily vitamin C from foods like orange juice, citrus fruits, broccoli, and green peppers. And make an effort to reduce your intake of concentrated sugar (e.g., soda, candy) because excessive sugar impairs the immune response.

GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP:
Lack of sleep may profoundly inhibit your immune system. Get a full night’s sleep to keep your body’s natural defenses at optimum efficiency.

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY:
If you do come down with a sickness, take it easy. Spending excessive energy steals valuable resources from the immune system. Even attempting to perform normal activities at work or school may be too much. Besides, if you believe you’re coming down with something, the best thing you can do for friends and family is to not expose them unnecessarily to the virus.

USE THE POWER OF YOUR MIND TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY:
Physical fitness gets plenty of attention, and for good reason. A healthy body can help prevent conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, sicknesses, and more. However, you should not overlook the mind-body connection when it comes to keeping healthy. Find out how hypnosis can help you and your family create a powerful immunity to diseases, illnesses, sickness, and viruses like the Flu, the common cold, and coronavirus COVID-19.

The holidays can be a great time of the year. However, during this time, it is sometimes difficult to stick to healthy habits. The hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, parties, and other events coupled with the never-ending temptation of delicious holiday treats can test the willpower of many people. so here are some simple things to help keep you happy and healthy during the holiday season.

1. Eat breakfast

When you eat a good breakfast, it sets a healthy tone for the day, which means you continue to choose nutritious foods for the rest of your meals and avoid mindless snacking.

2. Drink lots of water

As soon as you wake up, drink a big glass of water and continue to sip throughout the day. Keeping my body hydrated gives you energy (for holiday shopping) and wards off hunger pangs in between meals, so you can save you calories for holiday treats.

3. Be thankful

The holidays are a time of giving thanks, so start each day by thinking about something you are thankful for in your life. Having a grateful attitude first thing in the morning positively affects the rest of your day.

4. Take a walk

Every afternoon, take a walk. Simply getting outside and moving makes you feel great. It gives you time away from the craziness of the season, so it clears your head and adds some physical activity to your day.

5. Stretch

Make it a point to get up and stretch every hour or so. Taking a break and stretching eases tension in your body while helping you regain focus.

6. Find quiet time

With the hustle and bustle of the season, it's important to take some quite time for yourself. Try to find at least ten minutes a day to read a book or magazine, practice yoga, or just sit quietly.

7. Take a multivitamin

Although you may try your best to eat healthy during the holiday season, we all like to splurge, which means our food choices are not always incredibly nutritious. To make sure you fill any nutritional gaps in your diet, take a multivitamin every day.

It’s never good to see a company go under and need to file bankruptcy, especially a company in your own field of practice. However, that is exactly what has happened in the world of hypnosis with a nationwide company called Positive Changes Hypnosis Centers. But what makes this most interesting is not necessarily the bankruptcy itself, as many companies could easily find themselves in a position of struggle financially. Rather, it's being overly consumed with the "bigger is better" glass and brass - larger than life aspects of business, while losing sight of why you got into this business in the first place...which is to help people.

Reading the news of Positive Changes Hypnosis only serves as a reminder of why I keep my hypnosis practice small in a manageable way, and I always stay grounded.

Sure, we have a very large clientele from the New England area, but this hasn’t resulted in losing touch with reality. And sure, we could easily spend thousands of dollars opening a bunch of fancy hypnosis locations all over the place. But the expense would be at losing my sense of direction as to why I got into hypnosis in the first place...again to help people.

In the end, the saddest part about all of this is that a company that most likely originally set forth to help people change and improve their lives, has now left many of those very same people out thousands of dollars.

The science suggests that we will continue to eat until our eyes cannot see anymore food, even when we are full. There has been lots of research into why we over-eat.

The main reason we put food in our mouths is not that we are hungry but because it is in front of us and available. If we pop to the fridge for a drink we may also grab a quick snack, a handful of something, not a lot, but those snacks add up over the year. Research tells us that if we are less than 6 feet away from food and we notice it, we are much more likely to eat it. Either now or later, despite not being hungry.

Follow these simple tips and you will find that you no longer over-eat and watch as the pounds melt away.

Tip #1 Keep "ready to eat" food and treats at least 6 feet away from you.

The harder you make it to snack on junk food, the easier you make it to adopt a healthy lifestyle and lose weight. If you keep snacks in a container you are less likely to snack than if you put it out in the open.

Tip #2 Put snacks in a container. Better still put it in a container that is not see-through.

This halves the amount of absent minded snacking that takes place. Wrap leftovers in the fridge in tin foil and earmark it for another meal or lunchtime sandwiches instead of just saving it.

#2b Keep the wrappers and dirty plates in view to remind you what your have eaten.

If you have the evidence of what you have already eaten in front of you, you will feel fuller sooner. There is a famous piece of research where students were given chicken wings, some had the bones in front of them others had them tidied away. The group who had a reminder of how much they had eaten ate significantly less than those who had clean tables and clean plates. Knowing this makes it easier to make good lifestyle choices. Restaurant owners know about this and tidy away as soon as you have finished so that you will order more food, unless they want you to leave!

Tip #3 Keep empty packets, sweet wrappers and dirty plates in front of you whilst you eat.

You will eat less, because you will feel full, and you will feel full sooner than if you can’t see what you have eaten.

Tip #4 Trying to reduce the junk food you eat? Want to eat less chocolate? Do you keep treats in your desk drawer?

Keep the wrappers for the week in front of you or in the treat drawer, and you will eat fewer. Trick your brain into thinking that you are eating more than you really are and you will still feel full.

Tip #5 Use just slightly smaller plates and have slightly smaller portions.

Slightly reduce your food crockery size and you will plate-up less food and so eat less. Despite this you will feel just as full because your brain will assume it has eaten the same amount. Over time, scale down plates and portion sizes more and notice yourself scaling down too. Little by little is the key here.

Better still use white plates and avoid blue ones. A hospital in the UK wanted to get its patients to eat more of the food they offered. They found that presenting food on blue plates lead to patients eating 25% more food. White plates were the most unappetizing color.

Tip #6 Use tall thin glasses to reduce the amount you drink.

Tall thin glasses, as used to serve expensive lagers, give the brain a false sense of consuming more than you have. Again the brain feels more full and so you eat or drink less. Short and deep food bowls appear to be hold less and so people put more food in to make up for this. Notice the shape of some ice cream sundae bowls, tall and thin at the bottom. The food industry have playing tricks with our brains for years. To build a healthy lifestyle, do the same and reduce how much you eat and drink.

Tip #7 Pack Meals with Veg and Salad.

When you are eating a hamburger, go crazy with the salad and light on the mayo. Single burger, lose the cheese and you will lose the gut. Our brain feels full based on volume of food eaten not on what that food consisted of. So to lose weight, pack in more low calorie, healthy food and gently edit out the high calorie, high energy foods. Slow Down your eating. Give Leptin a chance!

Tip#8 Eat slowly to fully appreciate your food.

Big isn’t always beautiful. If you want to lose weight naturally without doing anything different, just by having a healthy lifestyle, then scale down a little at a time and watch yourself shrink too. You need 20 minutes before the hormone Leptin is released in your body. This hormone is the messenger that tells your brain and your body that you have had enough to eat. So the less you eat in those first 20 minutes the less you will eat before you feel full. There are lots of useful tips to help you just by knowing this fact. Focus on smells, tastes and textures of your food. Savour each mouthful and notice how full you will feel.

Tip #9 To help you slow down, use smaller plates, and use smaller cutlery.

Small cutlery slows you down. Small plates just make you automatically put less food on your plate which will also help you slow down your eating.

Tip #10 Have warm food or food which needs cutlery to eat it which takes longer to eat. Giving Leptin more time to send out its message.

Food which takes utensils to eat and warm food both take longer to eat than fast food. This gives Leptin more time to act and signal that you feel full. Perhaps I should recommend that you opt to eat everything with chopsticks?

Tip #11 Cut sandwiches into smaller bite size portions and support a healthy lifestyle by only picking up the next bite once you have fully eaten the last piece.

Again allowing time for Leptin to signal that you are full.

Tip #12 Eat a small bowl of soup before you have your main meal will result in you eating less food because you feel full sooner.

Research has found that you will eat less despite eating two courses. This is because eating takes longer and so you give leptin a chance to signal that it is full. You will plate up less food on the second, more calorific, course as long as you eat the soup first before you plate up the next course. Cafeterias, where you get your starter, main and desert course plus extras like bread result in you doing the opposite. Here people will over order it they do not plan what they would normally eat and copy that volume.

Tip #13 when eating a snack, keep healthy snacks on hand and unhealthy ones away from your self.

Make unhealthy snacking harder on yourself and you will do it less. By keeping fruit and nuts close to hand you are much more likely to eat these than chocolates. Healthy snacks give slow and steady energy release and so reduce energy and mood dips which cause people to eat even more junk food.

Tip #14 Keep unhealthy snacks out of the house so that you have to make an effort to purchase junk food.

Only buy as much as you are going to eat. This makes your association with junk food become more negative. The bigger the container the more you will eat. A huge bag of chips will result in you eating more than if you had lots of mini bags of chips. Healthy lifestyle research has shown a family bag or share bag will cause you to eat more than if you had the same amount in front of you but in smaller, individual bags.

Tip #15 If you have oversize bags of food, separate them into individual portions and store in ziplock air tight container.

You will eat less at each occasion. The least healthy, fattening and heavily sweetened food is the cheapest to make and the most profitable, so has the most money for advertising.

Tip #16 Beat the advertisers.

If you do not buy junk you cannot eat it. Adopt a healthy lifestyle, buy food because it is on your shopping list, not because it is cheap.

Tip #17 People buy more of one product if it is labelled as MAXIMUM OF FOUR ITEMS per customer.

This limiting is there to get you to buy more, not to preserve stocks for others. The more junk in the house the more you will eat. Take back control of what you eat, use a shopping list. Research has shown that if we are distracted when we are eating we continue to eat because we have not seen the amount of food we have eaten. If you do not notice what you are eating you do not feel as full.

Tip #18 Focus on the Food.

When eating focus on the food not others and you will fill up with less calories.

Tip #19 Turn the TV off when eating.

Do not snack next to the t.v. or at the cinema. How full we feel is affected by who we are with and what we are doing. If eating out with friends, we will eat more than if eating alone. Sometimes double. If eating out with someone who has a more healthy lifestyle than us we make better choices too. Research has found that girls on a first date tend to eat less as they don’t want to appear “unladylike” by having a big appetite, whilst men will eat more, to appear more “Manly”. Some people may eat more just because the bill is being split.

Tip #20 When eating out plan what you want to eat to avoid over eating.

Concentrate on your food and be assertive about how much you want to eat. Hidden calories account for the creeping weight gain. If people gained weight quickly then they would notice, stop and adopt a more healthy lifestyle. Some of the most hidden calories are in drinks. Some fizzy drinks contain 14 sugars in a single can, with popular drinks having at least 8.

Tip #21 Carry a bottle of water all the time.

You will drink more of it and so less sugary calorie dense fizzy drinks. This is the simplest and also one of the most important tips to adopting a healthy lifestyle. This tip alone could have a massive impact on your weight, your mood and your mental and physical functioning.

Tip #21(b) Don't confuse thirst for hunger.

Make it easy to manage your thirst by keeping a bottle close by. If you have not done it already make this healthy lifestyle choice now. Sugar free fizzy drinks, those zero calorie sweet drinks confuse your brain too. The brain expects to have some food coming when you drink these, and so when none arrives because it is artificial sweetened, it sends a signal to eat. Many people snack, not long after drinking these drinks.

Tip #21(c) Avoid snacking by drinking water instead of artificially sweetened drinks.

Variety maybe the spice of life but it is also the engine of weight gain too. The more different things you put on your plate at a buffet the more you will eat. Also the closer to hand the food is the more you will eat. Use these tips to deal with buffets and you will keep the weight down.

Tip #22 Be the last to join the queue at the buffet and you will have less choice and so eat less.

Tip #23 Eat away from the buffet, if possible in another room out of sight of the remaining food, even outside and you will not be tempted to graze on the leftovers.

Tip #24 Limit the variety of things that you put on your plate and you will eat less.

Pile that plate with healthy food and limit the high calorie food to just two items and you will fill up without the calories. Food is often labelled low fat when it only means it has less fat than before. This can be as little as 10% less fat so if you are adopting a healthy lifestyle it would be better to avoid this food altogether.

Tip #25 Read the labels.... Carefully.

Use caution when reading the nutrition advice and ask yourself - "what are they manufacturers not telling me?" Some foods are nicknamed Halo foods because they appear healthier than they really are. The label will say REDUCED or LOW IN (sugars or fat) or HIGH IN (something like vitamins). These labels often leave people with the impression that they are healthy, when they are high in fat, sugar or salt.

At Rhode Island Hypnosis Center, we are constantly searching for new groundbreaking tools and technology to help people heal through the power of hypnosis. And Virtual Reality Hypnotherapy can be one of those tools.

When is comes to a successful hypnosis session, safety, relaxation, and emotional engagement are the critical components. However, for many people their level of anxiety during the first few sessions can sometimes prohibit them from experiencing the full benefits of hypnosis in a traditional therapeutic setting.

For almost all people, this is their first time participating in a one-on-one hypnosis session. As such, there is often a natural degree of fear as to what to expect during their hypnosis session. And in turn, this often results in the client resisting the therapists’ instructions and/or suggestions – without realizing it. Virtual Reality tools can assist in relieving this anxiety by creating a relaxing alternative environment for the therapeutic work to take place.

Image that you are attending a hypnosis session for the first time. The Hypnotherapist instructs you to close your eyes, and through the process of guided imagery, he or she attempts to guide you into imagining yourself on a beach. Now, while this may seem simple enough, trying to hold onto this or other images in your mind while the Hypnotherapist administers suggestions can be difficult for some people.

Chances are your mind will drift and wander as you try to over-analyze everything the Hypnotherapist is saying, while trying to predict what will happen next. This reaction is only natural. However, Virtual Reality Hypnosis can change this.

Whether is relaxing on a beach, traveling through space, or simply relaxing next to a virtual pool, virtual reality tools can help clients improve their ability to separate from the triggers and distractions of the everyday world, and it also allows clients to more easily absorb the suggestions of the therapist.

Experience the difference that Virtual Reality Hypnotherapy and all out other hypnosis tools can make in your personal transformation.

It's that time of year when extra calories lurk around every corner - bags of Halloween candy calling your name, that huge Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings and desserts, frosted cookies at the office, eggnog at your neighbor's, jelly doughnuts for Hanukkah or chocolates in your stocking. All these extras add up, and if you're like most Americans, you'll put on a pound or two by New Year's Day.

So what's the harm in a little holiday weight gain, especially if it's just a pound? According to researchers at the National Institutes of Health, most Americans never lose the weight they gain during the winter holidays. The pounds add up year after year, making holiday weight gain an important factor in adult obesity.

But you don't have to fall into this trap. It is possible to enjoy holiday goodies without putting on a single pound. "Portion control is the key," says Susan Finn, PhD, RD. Finn serves as chairwoman of the American Council for Fitness and Nutrition. "I don't believe you can't eat food that you like - even indulgences - but it is the amount you eat," she says.

Of course, it's not easy to go on portion patrol when the temptations are endless. Here are some tips to help you avoid overindulging.

1. Never Arrive Hungry

New York psychologist Carol Goldberg, PhD, says planning ahead can help you maintain discipline in the face of temptation. "Don't go to a party when you're starving," she warns. Try to have a nutritious snack beforehand. If you do arrive hungry, drink some water to fill up before filling your plate.

2. Divert Your Attention

Many people forget that there's more to a holiday party than food. "Don't look at the party as just a food event," she says. "Enjoy your friends' company or dancing. Focus on something other than food." Chatting is a great diversion, whether you're at a small family dinner or a large party. "Take your mind off of food and focus on the conversation."

3. Pace Yourself

Have you ever tried telling yourself you'll only eat during the first half hour of a party? Goldberg says this strategy is a mistake. "If you cram in as much as you can in half an hour, you chew faster. Chewing more slowly will fill you up with less food." To munch at a leisurely pace, try putting your fork down between every bite. This puts you in control.

4. Outsmart the Buffet

When dinner is served buffet-style, use the smallest plate available and don't stack your food; limit your helpings to a single story. "Go for the simplest foods on the buffet," Finn says. "Fresh fruits and vegetables and shrimp cocktail are good choices. Watch out for sauces and dips."

5. Limit Alcohol

Avoid drinking too much alcohol at holiday parties. "It's not just about calories but about control," Finn explains. "If you drink a lot you, won't have as much control over what you eat." If you feel out of place without a drink, Goldberg suggests sipping water or club soda, "so you have something to carry like everyone else."

6. Be Choosy About Sweets

When it comes to dessert, be very selective. "Limit your indulgences to small portions and only what is very sensual to you," Goldberg says. Her personal rule on sweets: "If it's going to have calories, it has to be chocolate." What about sampling several desserts, if you only take a tiny bite of each one? "You have to know yourself," Goldberg says. "Some people can eat one bite of something and stop. I don't think most people can do that. "If you know you're the type who can't stop at one bite, you're better off taking a small portion of a single dessert than piling your plate with several treats you plan to "try."

7. Bring Your Own Treats

Whether you're going to a friend's party or an office potluck, consider bringing a low-calorie treat that you know you'll enjoy. Bringing your own dessert will make the more fattening alternatives less tempting. And don't feel your dessert has to be typical holiday fare. "Get away from rigid thinking about what holiday food has to be," Goldberg says. "People love fruit."

8. Limit "Tastes" While Cooking

If you do a lot of cooking during the holidays, crack down on all those "tastes." "People lose their appetites when they've been cooking because they've been eating the whole time," says Finn. Instead of tasting mindlessly every few minutes, limit yourself to two small bites of each item pre- and post-seasoning. "Just put the spoon in and taste a little bit," Finn says. "It's not grounds for a big scoop." For tried-and-true recipes, dare yourself not to taste the dish at all until it is served.

9. Walk It Off

Make a new holiday tradition: the family walk. Besides burning some extra calories, this will get everyone away from the food for awhile.

10. Stop It Before It Starts

In most of the tips and pointers outlined above, you will notice a common theme - it is all about planning ahead. This is because it is much easier to keep the weight off in the first place than it is to pack it on only to try to take if off later in the future.

Hypnosis can be a very effective tool for managing weight because it will help you make healthily decisions and choices without putting much thought into it. While the subconscious mind is working hard in the background making all the right weight-reducing choices for you, you get the easy part of simply moving on and enjoying the holiday season.

The only drawback? It might mean scratching "weight loss" off of your New Years resolution. However, I am sure most people can live with that.
A newlywed was cured of his crippling fear of flying just in time to go on his honeymoon - when he bumped into a hypnotist at the AIRPORT.

James and Sarah Roberts spent six months and more than £2k planning a once-in-a-lifetime adventure road-tripping around the US.

But when they arrived at Gatwick Airport , James - who had never flown long-haul before - found himself in floods of tears.

Panicking, the petrified postman, 34, told his devastated new wife he was too scared to board the plane.

Marketing executive Sarah, 31, resigned herself to the fact that they wouldn't be going and watched all the other passengers file onto the Los Angeles-bound flight.

But at that moment, a man running late for the same flight rushed up to the boarding gate, and, after noticing that James was in a distressed state, introduced himself.

The stranger turned out to be renowned hypnotherapist Jason O'Callaghan, who was on his way out to Sin City for his sister's wedding.

After hearing about the couple's ordeal, he put James in a trance there and then - while his wife and the airport staff watched in disbelief.

Less than 10 minutes later Jason escorted a calm James onto the plane and the couple went on to enjoy their dream honeymoon.

Sarah, of Hythe, Kent, said: "We were the last ones in the lounge. I was in tears, James was in tears. By that time I had tried everything.

"I got upset with him, angry with him. I said I was going to go on my own. I started to walk and he wasn't following me.

"I was literally about to say, 'OK, let's go home, I can't put you through this.'

"But at that exact point, this guy just appeared. I didn't even see him enter the lounge.

"He looked at me and looked at James and said, 'Does he have a fear of flying?' I answered, 'Yes,' and he said, 'Will you let me help him?'"

Sarah said Jason then put sat her hysterical husband down, put him into a trance and talked softly to him for five to six minutes.

Then he brought him round and led him - smiling and calm - onto the plane.

The Virgin staff at the gate were so amazed by what they saw, they offered the newlyweds and their saviour free seat upgrades for the 11-hour flight.

Sarah, who married James in May, said: "I'm a sceptical person and I have to see these things to believe them, but what I witnessed was crazy.

"We hadn't known how bad James's fear was going to be, but when we got to the airport he had a complete meltdown. He was just in bits.

"I'd managed to get him to the gate and at first I thought, 'Surely he is going to get on,' but as time went on we began to contemplate that we wouldn't be going.

"I asked if the staff could let us be the last to board the plane and said, 'Let me know when the last opportunity is,' and our bags were on standby.

"We literally had to get on there and then."

As a result of the bizarre encounter, James and Sarah were able to fly out to the states and enjoy a two-week adventure holiday.

They visited Vegas before driving to San Francisco and ending up in Los Angeles.

On the flight home, James - who isn't permanently cured of his fear - listened to a voice recording of Jason's voice to get him through.

Sarah said: "We are just so grateful. Honestly, if it wasn't for Jason and what happened we wouldn't have gone on our honeymoon.

"I can only put it down to fate."

James said: "I used to love flying but in the last few years I've developed this massive fear of it.

"I thought I'd be able to handle it, but when we got to the airport and I just broke down in tears. I was shaking and in extreme panic.

James and Sarah enjoying their dream trip in the states

"Then Jason turned up out of the smoke and sat me down. You couldn't make it up.

"Within a few minutes he had hypnotised me and the next thing I know we were walking onto the plane.

"I was relaxed during the flight. It was like I was still in a trance because all the anxiety had drained out of me.

"He saved our honeymoon and it was the holiday of a lifetime. If it wasn't for him we would have just had two weeks at home.

"Sarah has always wanted to go to American and to go with her new husband was the dream.

"We would've lost thousands of pounds if it hadn't been for Jason because we had booked rooms and car hire and everything. We owe him massively."

Jason, who runs the the D4 Clinic in Dublin, said: "I had an idea what was up when I saw James and he asked me to help him.

Not only does exercise help you maintain your physical fitness, it also improves your mood, decreases stress, and makes you smarter and more creative. In short, breaking a sweat is essentially a wonder drug for your mental and physical health.

But Like most people, you probably knew that already.

What baffles a lot of people isn't the question of why you should hit the gym. Instead, it is the puzzle of why, knowing everything you do about the importance of staying active, is keeping up on the task of exercising is still so hard. Despite our good intentions and a flood of public health warnings, a great many of us still struggle to get off our butts regularly.

The reason? Laziness is a feature - not a bug.

If that sounds like you, you might find a recent Harvard Magazine article by Jonathan Shaw comforting. It profiles the work of Harvard evolutionary biologist Daniel Lieberman, and apparently according to his research, your couch potato ways are not entirely your fault. Humans are actually hard-wired (by evolution) to tend toward laziness.

In a world where food was scarce, heading out for a recreational jog would be maladaptive - a waste of precious calories. Our ancestors, therefore, evolved to rest as much as possible in order to conserve energy. Now, they exercised far more than us in terms of chasing game and escaping predators. But this was because they had to.

"No hunter-gatherer goes out for a jog, just for the sake of it, I can tell you from personal experience," Lieberman tells Shaw. "They go out to forage, they go out to work, but anything else would be unwise."

Sitting around will still make you sick.

That drive to conserve energy made obvious sense for millions of years of human history, but in the modern world, where it's entirely possible to more than adequately feed yourself without getting off the couch, it's a health disaster. And not just because laziness can make you overweight.

According to Lieberman, the human body is designed on the assumption that exercise is inescapable and periods of sloth are rare and worrying. In essence, your body shuts down in key ways when you don't move. Muscles waste away and bone repair slows in order to conserve energy. These mechanisms for lowering the energy bill of your body made sense at a time when the most likely reason you weren't moving much was because there was nothing to eat. But times have changed dramatically, with worrying consequences, Shaw explains:

... at no prior point in human history was it feasible to lead an existence devoid of activity; exercise was literally part of the environment. The result is that mechanisms for reducing energy expenditure in the absence of physical activity now manifest as diseases. Heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and other maladies of modern life are the consequence of adaptations that evolved as a means of trimming energy demand, and modern medicine is stuck with treating the symptoms.

The bottom line: you can't be entirely blamed for finding it incredibly difficult to get off the couch - you're programmed by evolution to run only to catch food or when a lion is chasing you. And since we don't live in this type of world anymore, we really need to find another way of making ourselves get more active.
If only I had a dollar for every time someone joked about me making them cluck like a chicken. When you tell people you’re a hypnotherapist, it’s common to hear uninformed comments like these. Some people fear that hypnotherapy will make them lose control.

The truth is, hypnosis does not override free will. In a hypnotherapy session, clients are conscious, they are awake, participating, and remembering. Yes, hypnosis is known for using the "power of suggestion," but our subconscious minds are susceptible to suggestion at all times. Advertising, music, movies, and books routinely plant suggestions into our subconscious. Language and communication are saturated with suggestion.

So the bigger question might be - do we ever actually ever really have control?

Perhaps a different paradigm might be useful. Should anyone ask you if they will "lose control" in a session, you can tell them no. Instead, what they might lose is the following:

1. Fear

Who wants to be afraid of everything all the time? It is easy to downplay how much fear controls our lives and our decisions, but honestly, it is central to our collective control issues. Imagine feeling more at peace with yourself, having increased insight about your problems, and losing the fear that is ultimately holding you back and stunting your growth.

2. Stress

One of the biggest complaints in our culture is being overwhelmed or “too stressed out.” Hypnotherapy helps clients address the underlying emotional issues that may be causing workaholism, poor self-care, over-commitment, and unhealthy habits and coping skills. It also provides tools for managing stress and releasing negative energy from the physical body.

3. Pain

People come to therapists wanting help with their emotional and psychological pain. They are full of questions:

Why do I feel this way?
Why can’t I stop doing this unhealthy behavior?
When will I ever get over this anxiety, depression, or grief?

Hypnotherapy provides answers and a solution. More specifically, it is a gateway to a client’s subconscious mind, where they are able to access the answers and solutions themselves. (And as an extra bonus, hypnotherapy also helps clients manage their chronic pain, as described in this post).

The combination of healing, insight, and empowerment is what makes Hypnotherapy a uniquely effective modality. When your clients become curious and start asking questions about hypnosis, perhaps the best response is - What do you have to lose?

The average person gains 11 pounds for every diet they go on. Even worse, when they lose weight, they lose muscle and fat. When they regain weight, they gain back all fat. And since muscle burns seven times as many calories as fat, their metabolism is slower than when they started the diet. The cruel fact is that they then need even less calories to maintain their weight.

Have you ever heard someone who was very overweight say "I don’t eat that much?" The truth is that they may not be lying. They have just damaged their metabolism by yo-yo dieting.

The key to losing weight and keeping it off are two simple things. First, automatically reduce your appetite not by starving yourself but by fixing the out-of-whack hormones and brain chemistry that drive hunger and overeating.

And the second is to automatically increase your metabolism so you burn more calories all day long. Unfortunately, most diets do the opposite – increase hunger and slow metabolism.

Here are the five reasons most diets fail and how to change it.

1. You use willpower instead of science to control your appetite

There is a science to hunger. Unfortunately, most diets (eating less) will trigger hunger. You can only starve yourself for so long. Powerful ancient mechanisms compensate and protect us from starvation - even if it is self induced. Our hunger dramatically increases, our cravings ramp up and our metabolism slows way down to conserve energy. Eating certain foods (low fat, higher carb or sugary foods) actually increases hunger and slows metabolism.

How To Change This: Appetite

Eat enough to satisfy your appetite (but only real whole fresh food).

Eat protein for breakfast and avoid eating 3 hours before bed.

Compose your meals to balance blood sugar and lower insulin. Combine protein, fat and low-glycemic, non-starchy carbs (vegetables, fruit, small amounts (less than half a cup of grains and beans) at each meal. Fat and protein and fiber slow insulin spikes.

2. You focus on calories (eating less and exercising more)

All calories are not created equally. Some calories make you fat, some calories make you thin. What we now know is that any foods that spike insulin (sugar, flour and even excess grains, fruit and beans) trigger a shift in your metabolism. What does insulin do? It drives all the fuel in your blood from the food you just ate into your hungry fat cells (visceral or belly fat).

Then, your body thinks you are starving even though you just at a giant bagel or sucked down a Big Gulp. And remember, two things happen when your body thinks you are starving – you increase hunger and slow metabolism.

Have you ever eaten a big meal, then, an hour later, felt hungry again and needed to go raid the fridge or eat something sweet? That’s why.

How To Change This: Calories

Focus on very low-glycemic foods as the staples of your diet. Nuts, seeds, chicken, fish, grass fed meats, low-glycemic veggies (greens, salad fixings, etc.)

Use grains and beans sparingly (not more than a half cup once a day each).

Use sugar in very small doses. If you have to ask "is ______ OK?" - it isn’t.

Don’t use artificial sweeteners as they trigger sweet receptors, hunger and slow metabolism leading to obesity and type 2 diabetes.

3. You eat a low-fat diet

Most people still believe we should avoid egg yolks and that eating a low-fat diet will help them lose weight. The old idea that fat has 9 calories per gram and carbs 4 calories per gram led to the mistaken idea that if we cut out fat, we would lose weight.

Well, look what’s happened to America in the last 30 years, where low fat has been the rage and the method for weight loss. We are fatter than ever (70 percent of us are overweight), and now, 1 in 2 Americans has pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes.

Harvard scientist Walter Willet reviewed all the science on low fat and weight loss and found that it is not eating fat that makes you fat but sugar. A recent study by David Jenkins found that a low-carb (26%), high-fat (43%) vegan diet was more effective for weight loss and reducing cardiovascular risk factors than a vegan low-fat diet. The high-fat group lost 4 more pounds and dropped their cholesterol 10 more points by eating high fat. They called it Eco-Atkins!

Other studies show that by eating more fat and less carbs you can increase your metabolism by 300 calories a day (eating the same total calories a day). That’s like getting the benefit of running for an hour a day without getting off the couch. Basically you could sit on your butt and lose 1 pound every 11 days.

How To Change This: Fat

Don’t fear fat. It actually makes you feel full, speeds up your metabolism and helps you lose weight.

Eat good fats at every meal.

Eat vegetable fats, such as avocado, nuts, seeds, coconut butter or oil

Eat clean animal fats (organic eggs with the yolk, chicken, grass-fed meats) and fish with omega 3 fats (sardines, herring, wild salmon, black cod).

4. You have hidden reasons and need medical help

There are reasons beyond your diet or amount of exercise that affect your weight and metabolism. Your body is a system and many things affect metabolism.

The biggest hidden causes of weight grain or resistance to weight loss are the things that cause inflammation. And inflammation from anything that triggers weight gain by worsening insulin resistance.

What causes inflammation?

Hidden food allergies or sensitivities. Gluten and dairy are the most common culprits. But don’t switch to gluten-free or dairy-free options. Gluten-free cakes and cookies are still cake and cookies. They are still very high in sugar and refined carbs and flours. Just try soy yogurt with the sweeteners. You wouldn’t eat it!

Gut Problems. The microbiome – the 100 trillion bacteria in your gut play an enormous role in metabolism and health. If you have bad bugs (from eating refined, high-sugar, carb, low-fiber diet or taking antibiotics, acid blockers) they can either trigger inflammation or alter how your food is broken down and absorbed. Fecal transplants from a thin to an obese person will change their metabolism.

Toxins. Science has discovered that common environmental chemicals (pesticides, household cleaners, make up, pollution and heavy metals) can be “obesogens.” Chemicals that make you fat. In animal studies, giving rats a toxin caused weight gain even if they ate the same amount of calories and exercised the same.

How To Change This: Find Hidden Causes of Weight Gain

Try an elimination diet. Not eliminating calories but getting rid of inflammatory foods. Start with gluten and dairy. 100 percent for 3 weeks.

Fix your gut. Avoid gut-busting drugs (acid blockers, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories). Starve the bad bugs by eating a low-glycemic, low-fermentation (starch) diet. Take probiotics. See a Functional Medicine doctor to get help if you don’t success on your own.

Detox your body and your life. Reduce exposure to environmental and common chemicals. See the resources at the Environmental Working Group to reduce exposures in skin-care products, household products and the food you eat (meat and veggies). And the NRDC resource for eating fish without mercury. Eat two cups of cruciferous veggies a day (broccoli family). You may need help from a Functional Medicine doctor to do a medically supervised detoxification program.

5. You don’t have a plan.

Health is not something that happens to you. It is something you have to plan, like a vacation or your retirement! Most of us fail because we don’t "design our health." We don’t set up the conditions for automatic success.

How do you design your life so that you don’t have to think about doing the right thing? You begin by creating conditions for making it easy. Have all the right foods in the house, the right ingredients all ready for your morning protein shake, creating an emergency travel food pack, having your plan for exercise for the week in advance.

Also, there is no shame in asking for help. Find what works for you but don’t expect health to happen. You have to plan for it, even if that plan includes seeking assistance!

How To Change This: Create a Plan

Commit to designing your health. Do it weekly on Sundays!

Create an emergency life pack of food.

Join a community or get a buddy or a friend.

Ask for help. Hypnosis for weight loss can help you change your thoughts and habits so you can put yourself on the path to good health for life.

The science of health and weight loss is not a mystery. But old ideas die hard. If you look out for these five ways that diets fail and focus on how to change it, then you will begin to build new habits and practices that work. Health and weight loss are not a struggle. It’s not rocket science, just science!
Everyone knows that stubbing your toe hurts. What makes it stop hurting is the body's main pain-blocking process - the natural production of opioids.

Cognitive-based approaches found to reduce pain, such as hypnosis, acupuncture, distraction and even the placebo response, have been shown to work through this system. But does meditation also use opioids to reduce pain?

In a study published in the current issue of the Journal of Neuroscience, a team led by Fadel Zeidan, Ph.D., assistant professor of neurobiology and anatomy at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, reports that mindfulness meditation does not employ the endogenous opioid system to reduce pain.

"Our finding was surprising and could be important for the millions of chronic pain sufferers who are seeking a fast-acting, non-opiate-based therapy to alleviate their pain," Zeidan said.

The Institute of Medicine estimates that approximately 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain at a cost of more than $600 billion annually for treatment. And due to the increase in the number of people addicted to opiate drugs, from prescription medications to heroin, the Centers for Disease Control has labeled the problem an epidemic.

To determine if meditation uses the body's opioids to reduce pain, the Wake Forest Baptist researchers injected study participants with either a drug called naloxone, which blocks the pain-reducing effects of opioids, or a saline placebo.

In this randomized, double-blinded study, 78 healthy, pain-free volunteers were divided into four groups for the four-day (20 minutes per day) trial. The groups consisted of: meditation plus naloxone; non-meditation control plus naloxone; meditation plus saline placebo; or non-meditation control plus saline placebo.

Pain was induced by using a thermal probe to heat a small area of the participants' skin to 49 degrees Centigrade (120.2 degrees Fahrenheit), a level of heat most people find very painful. Study participants rated their pain using a sliding scale.

Zeidan found that the participants' pain ratings were reduced by 24 percent from the baseline measurement in the meditation group that received the naloxone. This is important because it showed that even when the body's opioid receptors were chemically blocked, meditation still was able to significantly reduce pain by using a different pathway, he said. Pain ratings also were reduced by 21 percent in the meditation group that received the placebo-saline injection.

By comparison, the non-meditation control groups reported increases in pain regardless of whether they got the naloxone or placebo-saline injection.

"Our team has demonstrated across four separate studies that meditation, after a short training period, can reduce experimentally induced pain," Zeidan said. "And now this study shows that meditation doesn't work through the body's opioid system.

"This study adds to the growing body of evidence that something unique is happening with how meditation reduces pain. These findings are especially significant to those who have built up a tolerance to opiate-based drugs and are looking for a non-addictive way to reduce their pain."

The next step for Zeidan's team is to determine if and how mindfulness meditation can affect a spectrum of chronic pain conditions. "At the very least, we believe that meditation could be used in conjunction with other traditional drug therapies to enhance pain relief without it producing the addictive side effects and other consequences that may arise from opiate drugs," he said.

Source: Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center
When most people think of hypnosis, they picture someone standing on stage with a swinging pocket watch in hand, making someone cluck like a chicken, but there is actually a science behind it. Cognitive science has been used to measure the effects and concluded they’re on to something. Meditation and hypnosis both trigger a relaxation response that is quantifiable and roundly considered healthful.

Hypnosis is basically meditation with intent. A person is relaxed into an artificially induced altered state of consciousness. The state resembles sleep but the mind becomes highly focused and responsive to suggestion. A Hypnotherapist can use suggestion(s) to explore repressed memories, instill a desire for heathy habits, and even reprogram a person to be open to ideas. During hypnosis the brain's cognitive systems are still able to interpret communication. The cognitive systems allow people to process information, categorize information, and create associations.

Hypnosis has been proven to be helpful in dealing with pain and was used to relax patients before anesthesia. Records show that ancient India and China used a form of hypnosis to relieve pain during surgery. The first case of hypnosis being used in surgery in Europe was recorded in 1794, when Jacob Grimm, one of the Brothers Grimm, was hypnotized prior to having an operation for a tumor. Hypnosis was officially recognized by medicine for pain relief in the 1950s and is now recognized as an accepted treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, irritable bowel syndrome and eating disorders.

So how is this possible and what gives "words" or suggestions the power to effect change? Science has tools that map and measure brain functions. Researchers compared the physical "body signs" of hypnotic subjects with unhypnotized people and found no significant physical change associated with the state of hypnosis. Hypnotized people's heart rates and respiration slow down as it does in any relaxed state, not the hypnotic state itself.

Magnetic resonance imaging found that hypnosis is a natural state of the mind that produces measurable effects in the brain. Electroencephalographs (EEGs) measure the electrical activity of the brain. EEG research found that brains produce different brain waves, rhythms of electrical voltage, depending on their mental state. The brain produces consistent waves at all frequencies. According to the study “Plasticity Changes In The Brain In Hypnosis And Meditation,” by Ulrike Halsband, Susanne Mueller, Thilo Hinterberger and Simon Strickner, EEGs showed that the brains of hypnotized subjects showed a boost in lower frequency waves associated with the dream state of sleep. There is also a reported drop in higher frequency waves associated with the wake state.

According to Science Daily, the brain has four different brain wave states: beta, alpha, theta, and delta. The beta state is the normal waking state, which is measured at a frequency of 14-28 cycles per second. The alpha state is a relaxed state which is inductive to visualization and creativity. The alpha wave pattern occurs during a brainwave frequency from 9 to 14 cycles per second. Theta occurs during REM Sleep. The theta state is a deeper state of relaxation that also occurs during hypnosis and meditation. The brain shows a theta wave pattern from 4 to 8 cycles per second, reports Science Daily. Theta brain waves can be considered the subconscious. It is the first stage of the phase where people dream. The delta state is the sleep state. The brain shows a delta wave pattern from 1 to 4 cycles per second. Gamma occurs when a person is processing stimuli and grouping things into a coherent whole. It is not a state of mind. It occurs during beta.

Scientists found that the alpha and theta brain wave frequencies relieve stress; facilitate deep physical relaxation and mental clarity; increase verbal ability and performance IQ; synchronize the two hemispheres of the brain; recall mental images and creative thinking and can reduce pain, promote euphoria and stimulate the release of endorphins.

A 2006 study in Germany found that specialized MRI brain scans showed less activity in two areas of the brain during hypnosis, the area that processes visuals and the area that handles conflicts. Researchers found that changes occur in the brain's cerebral cortex during hypnosis. Evidence suggests activity in the right hemisphere of the brain, which neurologists believe controls imagination and creativity, increases in hypnotized subjects. They found activity in the left hemisphere of the cerebral cortex, which controls logic, decreases. This could also explain why people feel less inhibited while under hypnosis.

Therefore, when the brain is relaxed it is open to new ideas and is capable of turning those ideas into habits, if a person chooses to be guided in that direction.
After just nine weeks of internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy, the brain of patients suffering from social anxiety disorder changes in volume. Anxiety is reduced, and parts of the patients' brains decrease in both volume and activity. This study could help us develop more effective therapies for one of the most common problems in mental health.

We have known for many years that the brain is remarkably adaptable. For instance, previous studies have shown that juggling and video games affect brain volume. However many questions about how the brain adapts remain unanswered.

A group of researchers from Linköping University and other Swedish universities has studied how internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) affects brain volume and activity. The researchers focused on patients with social anxiety disorder (SAD), one of the most common mental health problems. Before and after treatment the brains of patients were examined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

The researchers found that in patients with SAD, brain volume and activity in the amygdala decrease as a result of ICBT. The results are presented in Translational Psychiatry, a Nature publication.

"The greater the improvement we saw in the patients, the smaller the size of their amygdalae. The study also suggests that the reduction in volume drives the reduction in brain activity," says doctoral student Kristoffer NT Månsson, who led the study together with Linköping colleague Gerhard Andersson and researchers from the Karolinska Institutet, Uppsala University, Umeå University and Stockholm University.

The study comprised 26 individuals treated over the internet for nine weeks, making it a relatively small study. However, it is unique in that it investigates multiple factors at the same time: post-treatment changes in both brain volume and brain activity.

"Although we didn't look at that many patients, this work provides some important knowledge -- especially for all the sufferers. Several studies have reported that certain areas of the brain differ between patients with and without anxiety disorders. We've shown that the patients can improve in nine weeks -- and that this leads to structural differences in their brains," says Kristoffer NT Månsson.

Kristoffer NT Månsson sees the study as a first step in a larger project. Ultimately the aim is to better understand the psychological and biological effects of treatment -- in order to develop more effective therapies. The research team is now moving forward with studies on more patients. One study aims to identify the point during the treatment where the change in the brain occurs.
Here you are again. It’s 2015. And chances are...like most folks, you are getting ready make the same old New Year’s resolutions for the (inaudibly grumbled number) time. But this year is going to be different! You’re going to lose that weight this year, or quit smoking, or unload unnecessary baggage from your past to feel healthy, wonderful and ready for all of the great things life has to offer. YES, finally this is going to be your year!

Well, the sad reality is also like most folks, after a short burst of steam, your balloon of dreams begins to deflate. You begin to feel like you are jaded, like your resolutions have become nothing more than empty promises to yourself. Well cheer up and regain your hope! With a time investment of about 90 minutes, you may be able to say goodbye to your bad habits forever with the help of hypnosis.

Hypnosis is an underrated and sadly very misunderstood therapy that has an impressive track record in smoking cessation and weight loss. Just ask Matt Damon, who finally quit smoking in 2005 thanks to hypnosis. Damon claims he tried everything to quit and nothing worked until he tried hypnosis.

Now, some people might think “I don’t want someone controlling me like that!” “It won’t work for me.” “It’s so… creepy!” These are some excuses I hear most from people about why they would never try hypnosis. As a certified Hypnotherapist who also thought all of those things myself at one point in my life, allow me to address these concerns and explain how hypnosis works.

Our subconscious mind holds the answers to all of our long-term memory and esoteric information: “Why do I keep smoking when I know it’s killing me?” “What makes me reach for another donut even though I don’t want it and I’m not hungry?” “What was the name of my second grade teacher?” The subconscious mind has a powerful and obnoxious security guard though – the conscious mind!

So while we’re trying to focus to remember where we left our keys, we will often get conscious flashes of fear, worry or unrelated things popping into our head. “I’m going to be late now!” “What if someone else found my keys and they steal my car or break into my home tonight?” “Did I set the DVR for Lost?” These thoughts literally prevent us from hearing our own subconscious, which is the part of us that knows we left the darn keys on the kitchen counter when we brought in the groceries. Now imagine how our conscious mind is messing with us on the deeper issues!

Hypnosis is a simple method to send that annoying conscious mind out on a little daydream vacation so there is an uninterrupted dialogue with the subconscious. During your first hypnosis session, the hypnotist will likely start off by discussing with you what your goals are and what you can expect from the session. The hypnotist will then bring you into a state of hypnosis through a technique called induction.

There are several different induction methods, but the goal is to get your conscious mind to fly off to la-la land so the hypnotist can talk to “The Great and Powerful Oz” within you. (The guy behind the curtain pulling the levers, that is!) Please remember, you pay the hypnotist whether you get hypnotized or not, so you may as well try to go with it. If you focus on resisting, then you’re just taking away from a potentially life-changing experience, so try to keep an open mind (pun intended!) and have fun with it.

Once you free up some internal space, then the real fun begins as the hypnotist provides some wonderful new additions for your internal closet. The hypnotist can boost your self-esteem, reinforce that you are in control of your own life, and let you literally see yourself as a non-smoker, or a thin, healthy and truly happy person, etc. The process is called “hypnotic suggestions,” and these are basically affirmations repeated during hypnosis that will become implanted in your subconscious.

It’s important to note that any suggestions made in hypnosis that you morally disagree with will NOT be followed once you emerge. A hypnotist cannot change who you are. They can only help you change your habits or change your perception of yourself in ways that are already agreeable to you. When you emerge from hypnosis, you remember everything that happened, and you really do feel all of the positive effects immediately with no negative side effects.

There’s another important thing to keep in mind - you really have to want to change for success to happen. Remember that hypnosis is not mind control and a hypnotist cannot control you. So if your do not have the desire to change, change just won’t happen no matter what you try.

So this year, why not put a end to the insanity? If you are committed to changing your life and would like to try the fastest, simplest and most effective route to achieving your goal, give hypnosis a try. You have nothing to lose except your bad habits.
The customer is always right, unless they’re really angry in which case it’s more likely they’re actually lying according to new research from the University of Sydney.

The study, conducted by the university’s business school, found that people who lie during a service encounter have more extreme reactions to the outcome than their honest peers.

The explanation behind this phenomena is that the effort put into constructing the lie polarizes the reaction to the lie’s response – if the story isn’t believed the teller is usually more surprised and has a stronger reaction, whereas if the story is believed the consumer usually feels more satisfied for having lied to get what they want than if they told the truth.

“Lying is hard work,” Dr. Christina Anthony, the project’s lead researcher, elaborates. “When people lie, they’re so preoccupied with telling the lie and not revealing the truth that they aren’t able to monitor cues from the listener, which are important for updating expectations about the likely outcome of the conversation. This means that they are more surprised by the outcome and so have a stronger reaction to it.”

“So when you [consumers] lie to get a refund or to file an insurance claim and get away with it, you will have a much more polarized reaction than if you had told the truth. People who lie are more satisfied than truth tellers if they get a favorable outcome and more dissatisfied if they get an unfavorable outcome.”

With the average person telling one to two lies a day, which equates to about 42,000 lies before the age of 60, the findings raises some interesting questions for service interactions and knowing when to honor customer complaints.

The fact that customers who lie have more extreme reactions to service encounters has important consequences for businesses and marketers, says Dr. Anthony.

“Because a successful lie may boost satisfaction with a transaction, it may be wise in some instances to turn a blind eye if the company doesn’t have too much to lose financially.

“If marketers are overly cautious of dishonest consumers, they also run the risk of wrongly accusing and alienating people who are telling the truth.”

The study was conducted using a series of lab experiments in which participants either told the truth or lied during a conversation with a service provider in order to get a material reward. This included lying to a salesperson about better competitor offers to secure a more favorable deal and lying to obtain a refund that fell outside the terms of the refund policy.

Chances are, you’ve heard of Tim Ferriss. He’s a stand-out entrepreneur, author, consultant, athlete, bio-hacker, and life-hacker. He’s also got a new TV show, The Tim Ferriss Experiment, where he tries to become as good as possible at a certain skill he has no prior experience with — all in five days.

The underlying message of the show is that we are actually capable of doing so much more than we think when we put our minds to it and have the right teachers. Tim shares how he stays sane in the midst of all the hard work of his show.

If you work 24/7, or just feel like you get so invested in it that you forget to take time for yourself, try setting an alarm on your phone or calendar to implement at least one of the following practices every day and see what happens:

1. Get outside and go barefoot in the grass. You only need to do it for a few minutes. It will improve your mental state and help you feel grounded, and will actually help you feel less like a robot while answering emails.

2. Take your calls on a walk. Group together any phone calls that don’t need a visual aid and walk while you take them. It will get you away from your desk but keep you productive.

3. Take one minute to consciously let go of things that don’t serve you. If someone didn’t respond to a call or email and you feel slighted, or someone cuts you off in rush hour, let it go. Try to remember that it wasn’t a personal attack — and you’ll feel better immediately.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the things immediately surrounding you. If you can do one of these things every day, you will likely see an increase in your positivity and productivity. We don’t need to be superhuman to get superhuman results. We just need a better toolkit.
Eloise Aimee Parry died after taking diet pills that contain dinitrophenol, or DNP. (Photo: Facebook)

Diet pills may seem harmless, but a recent tragedy has shown how dangerous they really can be.

A 21-year-old British woman died on April 12 after accidentally overdosing on diet pills she bought online that contained the toxic ingredient dinitrophenol (DNP). Eloise Aimee Parry took eight tablets that contained the drug, her mother, Fiona Parry, said in a statement that she posted online. (Two tablets was a lethal dose.)

Eloise was taken to the hospital, where she “was literally burning up from within,” and her metabolism ran “at an explosive level” as doctors tried to save her, her mother said.

“As the drug kicked in and started to make her metabolism soar, they attempted to cool her down, but they were fighting an uphill battle. … When she stopped breathing, they put her on a ventilator and carried on fighting to save her. When her heart stopped they couldn’t revive her. She had crashed. She had taken so much DNP that the consequences were inevitable. They never stood a chance of saving her.”

Police are investigating the death and are warning people about the dangers of buying diet pills online. “We urge the public to be incredibly careful when purchasing medicine or supplements over the Internet,” Chief Inspector Jennifer Mattinson told the Guardian.

According to reports, more than 60 people worldwide have died from taking DNP, but the ingredient continues to show up in some diet pills. Dietary supplements in the U.S. are regulated differently than “conventional” foods and products. The FDA states on its website that dietary-supplement manufacturers must register their facilities with the government agency, but, unlike with other food products, they’re not required to get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements. That means there’s no guaranteeing that diet-pill ingredients are safe or effective.

Choose Natural Weight Loss with Rhode Island Hypnosis CenterJoe Giontihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09710338870927247332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1800172754331067768.post-40719679093040208492015-03-03T14:19:00.000-08:002015-03-03T14:20:12.506-08:00Early Signs Of Alzheimer's Found In Patients As Young As 20

Alzheimer’s disease may not be just for grandparents to worry about: Groundbreaking new research from Northwestern University has found that amyloid protein - a hallmark of the devastating disease - starts accumulating in brain neurons of people as young as 20 years old.

Scientists believe this is the first time that such changes have been noted in human brains so young. In the study, lead researcher Changiz Geula and his team from the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and team analyzed neurons from the brains of 13 “normal” young people ages 20 to 66; 16 people ages 70 to 99 without dementia; and 21 people with Alzheimer’s, ages 60 to 95.

“It was the age that really that surprised us,” Geula says. “In the young adults, we already see accumulation of amyloids.” This becomes worrisome when amyloid clumps grow in size and abundance. The difference between old and young in this study: While the amyloids themselves were present in younger people — and clumps were present as well - there was more clumping in the aging and Alzheimer’s population, says Geula.

“What this means is these neurons are susceptible to accumulate at a young age, but that the clumping really occurs in aging. During life, the substance needed to make clumps is available. And if you have susceptibility to form clumps, this could worsen.”

So what does this mean for you? First, know this: “In this study, we didn’t have a huge number of brains,” says Geula. “And this doesn’t mean that because young people have a measure of amyloids that everyone is going to get Alzheimer’s. It’s not an alarm.”

But there are susceptibility factors (that science knows a lot about) - and protective factors (that science doesn’t know as much about) - when it comes to Alzheimer’s, Geula says. “We have known for a while that if we want effective therapy for Alzheimer’s, we have to start early. What these findings suggest is the earlier the better.”

So start today and protect yourself and your brain with these techniques - no matter your age.

1. Kick bad habits - stat. “We know that general cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s aging can be enhanced by many things, most importantly, general health,” says Geula. In fact, many health factors such as diabetes, heart disease, pulmonary function, and obesity that can increase your risk of the disease.

2. Clean up your diet. Healthy habits like eating a Mediterranean diet (rich in nuts, greens, whole grains, fruits and veggies, poultry, and olive oil) have been linked to better cognitive function and a lower risk of Alzheimer’s.

3. Work it out. Exercise has been shown to enhance cognitive abilities in everyone, including the old and even the Alzheimer’s population. “Some animal studies show that the total amount of amyloid can be reduced in animals through enhanced exercise and enriched environment,” says Geula. And not only can exercise keep Alzheimer’s and dementia at bay, some research suggests it can even turn it around. When people with mild cognitive impairment walked on a treadmill for 30 minutes a day, four days a week for 12 weeks, people improved their neural efficiency using fewer mental resources to perform the same task.

4. Better your brain. Mental exercise — keeping your mind engaged and challenged through a variety of exercises — can also help. Research suggests that people who play cards, do crossword puzzles, and challenge themselves mentally on a regular basis are at a lower risk for developing the disease than those who don’t. And thinking on the bright side actually does matter: Negative thoughts can hinder your brain’s ability to think straight and form memories, according to research from King’s College in London.
Sadly, it is with much regret that we are informing our visitors that we are temporarily ceasing operations on our website.

Although we have been using the term “Positive Change Hypnosis” to describe our services for decades here in Rhode Island, we have recently come under attack by a Trade Mark Bully company Called Positive Changes Hypnosis Centers located in Ohio. We are posting this article to make consumers aware of this company.

In doing some recent research on the internet, here are just a few links we have found regarding this company:

http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/features/consumer_financial_fraud/consumer-fraud-lawsuit-enzyte.html#.VN28FsmKmXY

http://www.complaints.com/2007/june/14/Positive_Changes_Hypnosis_146128.htm

http://www.yelp.com/biz/positive-changes-hypnosis-center-bellevue

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.hypnosis/Gy2h2JUwOqo

http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-Positive-Changes-Hypnosis-RVW4281476.htm

http://www.n49.ca/biz/positive-changes-hypnosis/on/mississauga/5580-kennedy-rd/

http://www.complaint.tv/mind_over_matters_aka_positive_changes_positive_changes_turned_into_negative-1664.html

http://articles.courant.com/2008-08-26/business/hypno0826.art_1_business-practices-consumer-protection-clients

http://www.yelp.com/biz/positive-changes-hypnosis-beverly-hills-2

http://www.readthehook.com/93022/fearless-consumer-disappearing-hypnotist-5908-pound-diet

This sort of "Trade Mark Bullying" and threatening techniques are common practice with many giant companies, corporations, and businesses as a way of monopolizing an industry and forcing small and local businesses out of existence. Since this company is a chain brand, our only guess is that they are considering expanding to the East Coast and they see us as a threat.

We intend to stand up and continue our fight to the fair usage of generic terms and words like Positive, Change, and Hypnosis for not only ourselves, but also for all our hypnosis colleagues and partners throughout New England and the US.

However, the decision to cease operations for the moment was because after we refused to back down from their threats, Positive Changes Hypnosis Centers has have now resorted to accusing us of different things pertaining to our website that we would like to resolve before we resume. Please check back as we will be posting links to their attorney letters soon, which you will see are abusive and just plain, mean in tone.

In the meantime, we if you are a current client that needs access to our client tools or information, please email us at get247customerhelp@yahoo.com and we will be happy to provide these tools to you. Also, this only affects our website and it does not affect any sessions or appointments, as those will continue to resume.
We will continue to update you as this unfolds. Joe Giontihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09710338870927247332noreply@blogger.com0
