What you are eating, could actually be what is eating away at you. Here are some foods that could be affecting your mood.
1. Believe it or not, it's estimated that the average American drinks a
whopping 600 sodas a year These drinks turn to fat inside our bodies,
sending our moods plummeting after the initial sugar rush.
2. Although we all love potato chips, most brands are fried up in oils
riddled in omega-6 fatty acids that block out mood-enhancing,
brain-building omega-3 fatty acids. Frying potatoes also creates the
carcinogen acrylamide.
3. Scientists have debated what was healthier for us - margarine or
butter. Now, the science is clear = margarines made of
inflammation-promoting, industrial fats are harmful, and the high levels
of omega-6 fatty acids could tamper with our mood and healthy insulin
levels. The bottom line is that margarine is fake food that the human
body doesn't know how to deal with it.
4. Many people have the impression that bagels are healthy. The truth
is, they are packed with refined carbs that result in a major energy
crash and mood bust before lunch-time. Not to mention that the size of
bagels has doubled compared to just a few decades ago.
The majority of hams come from factory farms where pigs are pumped full
of antibiotics. These hams are also injected with sugar, salt, fillers,
and nitrate preservatives that can trigger low moods, migraines, and
even swollen ankles.
Salted peanuts are high in sodium and questionable food additives,
including monosodium glutamate (MSG), an artificial flavoring linked to
migraines, weakness, burning sensations, wheezing, and difficulty
breathing in some people.
So, should you quit eating these foods and snacks? The answer is
probably not. Just know that like anything else in life, moderation is
key and the fact that your feeling more down than normal could be a sign
that it’s time to lay off the snacks for a little bit.
