Self-hypnosis training may help children with Tourette syndrome, study finds
July 12, 2010 | By Jeannine Stein, Los Angeles Times
Children and teens with Tourette syndrome found help for their tics via sessions of self-hypnosis, according to a new study published online Monday in the Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics. The study included 33 participants ages 6 to 19 who had tic disorders. Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder that can cause involuntary tics such as coughing, yelling, head jerking and blinking. It's typically treated with medication, which can have mild to severe side effects such as anxiety, weight gain and sluggishness, but new non-drug treatments are showing promise.

So what happened to “Your Positive Change?”
If you were not familiar with “Your Positive Change” it was a separate website that we used to host our subliminal MP3’s, books and self-help hypnosis tools. Oh and what glorious days they were!
From the soft hypnosis background music playing on our homepage to the repetitious FAQ pages mirroring all the same hypnosis information and benefits as our live service page, those days will be missed!
But before anyone sheds a boatload of tears, terminating the site was actually a positive move for us.
When creating Positive Change Hypnosis we had made the decision to keep our self-help tools separate from our live hypnosis service. The theory was to avoid clients experiencing a sort of “tug of war” as to whether or not they would prefer live hypnosis sessions or opt to use a self-help hypnosis tool. And the idea worked well. People who wanted live hypnosis seemed to find our Positive Change Hypnosis website and people who wanted to help themselves found Your Positive Change.
So although way back in the beginning when we only offered 3 or 4 MP3’s and 1 or 2 books, the idea made all the sense in the world. However, as out company grew it just became a lot more work to keep both of the websites going. Therefore, we have recently made the decision to pull the plug on “Your Positive Change.”
The good news is that our main webpage now offers many more customer options and best of all, they are now all in one single place. This includes all of our self-help tools plus our live service. We have even custom tailored pages to be more helpful to our clients. For example, when a client picks our page to quit smoking, after reading our information they now have a bottom option to pick a live session service or a subliminal audio for their issue.
So in closing, although “Your Positive Change” has served us well and will be missed, the end of one journey marks the beginning of a new one.
And now…a quick moment of silence…thank you for reading.

Change Your Life With Hypnosis
Does Hypnosis Scare You? Should It?
Sometimes the story starts out the same. A man or woman calls me about a smoking problem. The problem is that his or her doctor says they need to stop smoking and they are truly ready to quit but nothing seems to be working.
Cold turkey seems to have failed along with those magic pills or nicotine drugs that their doctor has prescribed and they have been faithfully taking. So now, he or she is not only taking pills but is also continuing to smoke at the same time. Since they are now even more desperate, they figured they would call me to help them out.
So, he or she visits our office and in a session or two, successfully kicks the habit. Now, at this part of the story most folks would agree that the ending results of this person quitting in one or two sessions is amazing. And while we would totally agree with this, there is also a sad part to this story. The sad part is that some people are so afraid of hypnosis that they will try everything else first, including drugs with known and unknown side effects.
Now some may argue that EVERYTHING including hypnosis has some sort of side effects. So if this is true what exactly are the side effects of hypnosis? Is it dangerous?
The truth is that hypnosis does have a side effect and it is called relaxation. Now, there is really only one problem with the kind of relaxation which hypnoses causes. You have to make sure after your session ends that you are fully awake, alert and aware before leaving your session, crossing a street or driving home. So if you consider relaxation a negative side effect, then there you have it.
But that is not the end of the story...
I am disappointed that we have not fully set the record straight on hypnosis, particularly hypnosis for the purpose of self improvement. Not to point fingers or act like a stick in the mud, but I think that much of the misunderstanding about hypnosis comes from stage hypnosis which has been used for entertainment.
A few years back while I was telling people about my hypnosis company, I noticed I got a mixed reaction from many of my friends and family members. Some acted a little afraid while others seemed interested in trying it out. But one thing still stands out to this day.
My sister showed an interest in wanted to undergo hypnosis and one of her friends said "I would love to watch you hypnotize her." I remember that when she made this comment, although it was innocent, the reality set in. Many times when I tell people that I perform hypnosis they act as if I am a magician who was going to make them bark like a dog, cluck like a chicken, make them disappear or saw them in half.
The truth is that I do not perform magic or illusion tricks. I perform therapy treatment for people. With that said, I often find that there are a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis and even some that can cause common fears. So I figured I would list a few of them below.
"I will get stuck in hypnosis forever."
If you have ever seen the movie Officespace, you may remember the part when the hypnotist dies during the session and the main character gets stuck in the hypnotic state. Although it is a funny movie, this is false. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis even if your practitioner were to collapse in the middle of your session, and not end the session. Instead, what would happen is that after not getting any input for a few minutes, your subconscious mind would take notice and then would exit the hypnotic state. And you would naturally wake yourself.
"The hypnotist will make me tell my secrets. "
Again maybe another entertaining plot for a movie but not true. Secrets such as bank account numbers or other personal life topics are safe. To begin with, no reputable hypnotist would try and obtain this information but even if he or she did, your powerful subconscious mind, whose main purpose is to protect you, would call a foul and keep quiet.
"I will become a robot under the control of the hypnotist."
Think about it for a moment, if this were true, I would rule the world. This is similar to the above. Your subconscious mind is geared and designed to protect you from danger and damage and therefore, would simply not participate in a venture of this kind.
"I read about a cult leader who used hypnosis."
Frankly the cult leaders who lure people into blind devotion are using charm, charisma and persuasion tactics and not hypnosis. Sometimes people might describe the feeling of being hypnotized as an explanation for "why they fell for it." They may even use it as an excuse because they do not want to appear foolish or weak minded for believing in something. But again this does not mean that the cult leader actually performed hypnosis on them.
"I can not be hypnotized so I would be wasting my money."
Many people think that they are too smart to be hypnotized, too antsy to be hypnotized, too unlike-everyone-else to be hypnotized, and more. Here is the truth, with a heaping spoonful of honesty. If you do not want to be hypnotized or can not follow instructions for going into hypnosis, then it may not work for you. If you are too distracted to concentrate, or exceedingly nervous about trying, it may take a little more effort than the average person, but it is do-able. If you have an IQ of less than 70, you might have difficulties, but if you are reading and understanding this blog, you are good to go.
A little more about this: I have worked with clients on referral from psychotherapists for help with ADD/ADHD. With patience and intention, they even learned to hypnotize themselves.
If you think you will feel uncomfortable with the hypnotist, just not in the mood, or you need some questions answered first, it is okay to get those covered before your session. It is also okay to be a little scared about being hypnotized. Fear holds within it two things - A respect for something that may be powerful and life changing and a desire to keep yourself safe. Both are worthwhile thoughts.
In closing, people should get educated about any life changing decisions that they make including hypnosis. For example, if you want to feel even safer about hypnosis, look for documented cases where hypnotists were sued by their clients for unprofessional behavior. Now compare those to other mental health professionals, and doctors, and dentists too. The number of hypnotists would not fill a hotel room.
So you see, the more you know and understand, the more powerful you become.

Can I have a side dish of motivation with my order?

Congratulations…you finally decided to pursue your health goals and join that gym to lose a little weight and get in shape. Way to go!!
So…with the crossed look of determination in your eye and that fire in our soul, you march down to gym, whip out your creditcard and proudly pay for that privileged workout membership. After that let’s head off to the nature store for maybe a few bottles of herbal supplements or some vitamins. Don’t stop - your on a roll now!! Next we can follow that sweet scent of success right down to the local sporting goods store for some new workout clothes, outfits or supplies.
Wow! After doing all of this running around you are already pooped and you haven't even lifted a single weight or performed one single crunch. But don’t sweat it. Instead just keep reminding yourself how great your new life is going to be. And so, a few hours later, a few hundred dollars poorer and a few shopping bags heavier, let’s check off our “to do” list. Do we get everything that we needed? Not quite.
What is the one major factor that is responsible for ending most of our hopes, dreams and goals? Motivation, or at least a lack thereof.
Think about it for a moment. What makes a person join a gym only to quit or simply stop going a few months later? A lack of motivation. Why is it that when a person gets the great idea to start his or her own business venture, it never really seems to go anywhere? A lack of motivation. What causes a person to begin that new breakthrough diet, only to go off it and regain the weight back after only a few short months? A lack of motivation.
You see, when we are making all of these plans and decisions to change our lives such as joining a gym, exercising more, starting a business, quitting smoking, seeking a new job, going back to school and more, we begin these plans and ideas with a high level of motivation. As we make our plans, we are busy dreaming about how good we are going to look, how much money our business is going to make or how much cash we are going to save by quitting smoking Ect.
Now, while we are making all of these decisions and plans for a better life, although we do so with nothing but the best intentions in mind, what happens over time is that we begin to become consumed by “real life.” Personal finances, general life stress and more can quickly deflate our newly found hopes and dreams. When "real life” steps back into the picture, this causes us over a period of time to slowly begin losing that surge of motivation, which was guiding us in the first place. And so we become similar to an automobile, which was running just fine until it ran out of gas.
So, as reality closes in and we begin to run out of gas, that dream of a better or healthier life slowly gets stored away into the backs of our minds and we simply lose interest. Now, some folks may even justify their reasons for quitting such as “starting a business is way too expensive” or “I just can’t find the time to visit the gym right now.” Giving up on something does not make us bad or weak. But it is something that could have been prevented if we only planned a little more for it.
Now, I felt it was important to write this article as it relates to hypnosis because often times, people who consider hypnosis treatment do so in an indirect way. For example, in general if a person wants to lose weight or start a business, calling a hypnotist for help may not be their first choice. In fact, they are most likely not even thinking about hypnosis. It is usually only after several failed attempts at something or when a major problem comes up that people will specifically seek hypnosis treatment.
Because of this I wanted to clear the air on the fact that we are not competitors of weight loss clinics, diet pill companies, workout centers and more. Instead, we are actually there for your success, just like they are. However, we simply have a different role. They supply the diet pills, workout machines, weight loss plans and other items. And on the flip side, we can help by keeping you focused and motivated, ensuring that you will continue to use these tools to reach your goals.
The bottom line is that if you are considering any sort of life changes, hypnosis will only help better your chances of success. One of the saddest things is when a client visits us and tells us that they have wasted hundreds of dollars on diet pills or workout centers over the years. It is sad because although we can still help them, if they had only considered us for preventive maintenance years ago, we could have saved them a whole bunch of waisted money, time and effort not to mention the feeling of failure.
So go ahead and order those diet pills, join those gyms or enroll in that business night school. After placing your order for success, just be sure to include a side dish of motivational reinforcement with a Hypnotherapist. After all, that shiny new and expensive gym membership card is meaningless if you are not going to use it. And for less money than you would spend on a quality workout suite, it will be worth it in the long run.

Willpower Is a Mental Workout
For example, when subjects were told not to eat chocolates sitting right in front of them, their persistence in puzzle solving deteriorated. When they were told to suppress an emotional reaction to a movie, they had problems solving a solvable anagram.
This is the overwhelming reason why willpower only works in the short term. You only have the conscious resources to exhibit willpower on one (or at the most two) fronts at one time. This is why it is SO HARD to stay disciplined with eating, exercise, setting new goals, studying, and the like.
Any self-regulatory strategy has costs with respect to depleting a person’s general resources for self-regulation.
Accomplishing Goals without Depleting Willpower
Willpower works in your conscious mind because you are constantly thinking about the change that you are trying to accomplish. Now, your conscious mind is only able to process approximately 50 bits of information a second, while your unconscious mind processes approximately 11 million bits per second. That means your unconscious mind processes information about 220 THOUSAND TIMES FASTER than your conscious mind.
Much of the time, your conscious mind is actually the bottleneck towards effecting true change, as its main role is getting you through the day in the "here and now" and setting long term goals. Researchers call this “Executive Control.
The Trick Is to Have the Triggers for Your Desired Behaviors Reside in Your Unconscious Mind
For example, if your goal is weight control, you would naturally want your unconscious mind to automatically desire healthy green foods, water, healthy portions, exercise, etc. without having to think about it consciously. Think about it for a moment. Non-smokers don't have the urge to smoke because they are not sitting there thinking about cigarettes the whole day. So if a smoker could erase cigarettes from their mind, they too would naturally not feel the urge to smoke.
In addition, if your goal is to be more productive, you would want the actions of setting goals, rewarding yourself for success and focusing on your projects to be automatic. If you have to consciously think about it all the time, you will exhaust your resources.
If your goal is to have a better relationship, you would want to somehow program in natural triggers for listening, paying attention, giving space, and showing empathy, instead of always having to think about them.
So there you have it. Things seem to be a whole lot easier when we automatically think about them in a certain way. That is why hypnosis is such a great tool. It not only helps to erase our negitive behaviors, but you can also insert positive ones as well.

Famous People and Hypnosis
I wrote this article for a few reasons. The first being that although it is becoming much more accepted as a form of treatment I have to admit that when I mention to people that I perform hypnosis, many times I still get a reaction similar to as if I just told them that I perform black magic rituals or some kind of voodoo.
Now, I can sort of understand their reaction since hypnotherapy is still seen by many people as a little bit offbeat, even though it is a perfectly normal and natural art, just as yoga or meditation. I also can’t blame their reaction since we as a society, have grown so dependent on pills, medications and drugs. And so, since we do not fully understand the human mind and its potential, it is really no big surprise that many people doubt our own capabilities to create change
Furthermore, we have all been taught that personal change is hard, difficult, takes a lot of time and you need a lot of willpower to make it happen. However, if you were to ask the many people who do use hypnosis why it is that they use it, they would ALL say that hypnosis is easy, quick, natural and takes very little time, whilst the benefits are truly amazing. But again since this goes against all that we have been taught, to those who remain skeptical it simply can not be real.
The next reason I wrote this article is because when people think of hypnosis, we often get an impression of a magician on stage making people do silly things like barking like a dog. Well, I can tell you that hypnosis is used for a lot more than making people bark like dogs or cluck like chickens. The following is a list of some famous people that have used hypnosis and their reason(s) for using it.
Steve Hooker, of Australia, won the Gold Medal for Pole Vaulting in the 2008 Olympics, after his hypnotist helped him to visualize his success.
Hollywood actor Aaron Eckhart has credited hypnosis with changing his life forever after he used hypnosis to give up smoking and alcohol.
Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965), British Prime Minister, used hypnosis in order to stay awake all night and avoid tiredness during World War ll.
Albert Einstein (1879-1955), physicist, is known to have had hypnosis sessions every afternoon. His theory of relativity came to him during one of his hypnosis sessions.
Kevin Costner flew his personal hypnotist to Hawaii to cure his seasickness.
Championship golfer, Jack Niklaus, lauded hypnotherapy & visualization techniques as the sole reason for his improved concentration.
Mark Knopfler, Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Ashton Kutcher & Charlize Theron all beat their smoking habit through hypnosis.
Jackie Kennedy Onassis used hypnotherapy to relive & let go of tragic events in her life, including the assassination of her husband.
Tiger Woods' mental coach hypnotizes him to block out distractions and to focus on his golf game.
Kevin McBride, the celebrated Irish heavyweight boxing champion, summons his hypnotist before every fight, to get into the right frame of mind.
Jimmy Connors is said to have used hypnosis techniques to practice his winning strokes prior to the U.S. Open Championship.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-92) repeated names to himself like a hypnotic mantra in order to access different states of consciousness in which whole poems came to him.
Mozart (1756-91) apparently composed the famous opera Cosi fan tutte while hypnotized.
Rachmaninov (1873-1943) reputedly composed one of his concertos following a posthypnotic suggestion.
Chopin (1810-1849) pianist and composer took classes in hypnosis at the University of Strasbourg.
Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud developed modern psychiatry as a result of learning about (and practicing) hypnosis.
Andy Bryant, haircare consultant, hit the headlines when he underwent a vasectomy under hypnosis without anesthetic and, immediately after the operation, went back to work.
Paul Daniels, magician, lost his fear of closed spaces after using hypnotherapy in 1996 with Dr. Robert Russell Ph.D.
In closing, these are just a few famous people who have used and benefited from the power of hypnosis. I hope that this article was able to inspire you a bit to maybe think of some reason why you might benefit from hypnosis.

Change Your Life With Hypnosis
Did you know that many of your employees are suffering?
Your company may be losing money and you may not even realize why!
Here is the scenario…you started your own business or maybe you are in a management position within an existing company. As a manager, business owner or company leader you may ultimately be in charge of company production or at least to some capacity, responsible for maintaining acceptable production goals and levels. Now, although you may be putting forward your best efforts in trying to attain positive results from your workforce you may sometimes feel like you are fighting an uphill battle.
So why is this? As company leaders we continue to utilize the “old hat” tactics of yesterday such as setting employee goals, trying to create employee motivation, running sales contests, even using brut force and scare tactics such as issuing employee warnings and reprimands for low production. Yet it continues to be a difficult task and in some cases, next to impossible to get your company to where it should be. Well the problem may lie within your workforce but for much different reasons than you may think.
So what is the problem? Troubled Employees = Diminished Work Ethics
Our current economy has taken a toll on the personal lives of many of your employees. Home foreclosure rates are up, divorce rates are increasing and many of your employees are experiencing severe financial hardship. To put it in simple terms, behind those Monday morning smiling faces, many of your employees are losing their homes, their families and their will to succeed. Personal problems can often lead to anxiety and depression which can cause employees to miss work and not be at 100% all of the time.
So how does this affect your business? Diminished Work Ethics = Low Profits
Back in the day, we used to tell employees to leave their personal problems “at the door.” Unfortunately, since these tuff economic times are affecting just about everyone, this approach is no longer realistic. And so it is only natural that when our employees are having problems outside of the workplace, it automatically gets carried onto the job. Sure employees may do a good job of hiding it, but personal problems will eventually begin to show through a lack of motivation, reduced self-confidence levels and very little desire to achieve success. Remember that these people are your workforce. And when your workforce is hurting…your business is going to feel the pain.
So how can hypnosis help? Happy Employees + Better Work Ethics = Greater Company Profits
Hypnosis can help people relieve stress, regain their self-confidence, boost their self-esteem levels and much more. For example, the majority of our clients are employed and have jobs which means that when we assist a client with their personal needs we are also in essence, helping their employer by creating a happy and well-balanced employee who is therefore more confident and productive at their job. The final result is that our client feels better and their employer also benefits from this outcome.
The fact is that more of today’s business owners are beginning to realize that the power of hypnosis, although not a “fix all” for every single problem, can certainly help with a lot of issues. Because of this, many companies have turned to offering group hypnosis sessions to their employees that are interested. For example some companies may offer their sales team the opportunity to participate in a confidence building session. The company will often receive a group rate price and at the same time, is offering a tool that can help their sales team achieve greater results for the company.
The bottom line is that overall, people want to do a good job and accomplish more in life. However, it is also a reality that when an employee is spending most of their workday wondering how they are going to pay bills or worrying about going through that foreclosure process, it is naturally difficult to focus on doing the best job that they can. Using hypnosis to take a little bit of the edge off by creating some life balance for employees means better business for you.

How many good Summers do you have left?
So I came across this phase from a website that I was visiting on the Internet. Now, in an effort not to bore anyone, although I will not go into great detail about the exact reason for this quote, this person was ultimately talking about how short life was and how people need to get out and make the most of it.
Naturally after reading this saying I began to think about my own experiences and how it relates to the life I have created and built for myself. I also began to think about how we as humans very often put off until tomorrow, what we should and could be doing today.
Now, hopefully many people who are reading this blog post have been able to accomplish most if not all of their goals and dreams in life. Or maybe you are currently in the process of fulfilling your goals and dreams by attending school or working on that job promotion and such. Either way, if you are on the right track to personal success then congratulations. But the sad reality is that many people have had certain goals and dreams in life that just never happened. This is because in most cases they never seemed to find time to make these goals and dreams a reality.
Now, I will be the fist to admit that life can be very busy and sometimes overwhelming. However, life also waits for nobody. If you do not jump onboard, life will pass you by and very quickly. I mean when you think about it, reflecting back on the past five years or so will make even the most well balanced individual scratch their head and wonder, where did the time go?
That being said, it is never too late to hit the breaks and bring things to a halt while putting things into perspective. Now, I am certainly not suggesting that you can stop time from going by. However, it is never too late to re-evaluate where you are in life, where you want to go in life, and how you are going to go about changing your life in order to get there.
We begin to die as soon as we stop living. What I mean by this is that no matter how young or old you may be, there is still life in you, or at least you need to believe that there is. Maybe that is what motivates the 50 or 60 year old Grandmother or Grandfather to go back to college and receive their degree. Or maybe that is what motivates that 45-year-old housewife to finally start her own business. Look at Sonny Bono and Arnold Schwarzenegger, an entertainer and movie actor who both pursued a career in politics. There are many examples of people doing things like this everyday and why? Because they have decided that there is more life left inside of them.
The bottom line here is that changing your life is the easy part. The hard part is making the decision to begin your journey then following through with it. So the next time you decide that would love to change “this” in your life or you wish you could accomplish “that” in you life, before you put if off until tomorrow which never really comes, ask yourself this…”How many good Summers do you have left?” Each one that flys by is one less.

Choosing a Hypnotherapist
Before we begin, we want to start by saying that we would certainly hope that everyone who is seeking hypnotic treatment would choose Positive Change Hypnotherapy for his or her needs. However, we do live in the real world so we are going to be realistic about it. There are a lot of hypnosis companies out there that people can choose to receive their service from. And so we wanted to write this article in hope of helping people make the right choice when choosing a Hypnotherapist.
If you do an Internet search for hypnotherapy or hypnosis you are bound to find more websites than you can handle. This is because nowadays, more and more people are beginning to realize the power of hypnosis. And because of this, many people are jumping on board the hypnosis bandwagon by setting up websites to sell hypnotic related materials and service.
Because there seems to be so many companies available on the Internet the good and bad news is that you are left with lots of choices. We say “good” and “bad” because having lots of choices is fine, however it can also leave some people feeling overwhelmed. For example, picture yourself walking into an automobile tire store. You are there looking to buy new tires for your car. Now, upon walking in you find a wall of 10,000 plus tires to choose from. Where do you even begin?
Well chances are, you are very well not going to research all the information on all 10,000 tires. Instead you would do like most people and find the first available associate to assist you. Well we wrote this article in hopes of being that very same associate who will help you choose the best service provider for your hypnosis needs.
Here are some tips to help you out.
1. Audio’s or live sessions? You will first want to determine if you are looking for pre-recorded audio items or live therapy. On the surface pre-recorded hypnosis items may seem like a good choice because often times they are less expensive and more private than live therapy. However you will want to keep in mind that with pre-recorded hypnosis products, one size fits all. And because of this, they may not work for you. For example, if you are seeking hypnosis for weight loss, your weight problem may really have more to do with stress in your life. And so the correct form of treatment may actually be a stress reliever. Pre-recorded items can not determine what the real problem is. And so this is one major factor that you will want to consider before spending money on pre-recorded hypnosis products.
2. Another problem with pre-recorded hypnosis products is that many companies only sell these items for other companies and do not actually create the recorded products. And since they are only selling these products, whet kind of service will you receive if you are having problems or if the item isn’t working for you? Remember that if they are simply selling products for someone else, how much help can they really offer you if there is a problem? Therefore, we recommend only purchasing audio products from companies who make their own pre-recorded hypnosis products and at the same time, offer live practice. Companies who not only sell hypnosis items but also perform live hypnosis will have a better understanding of how pre-recorded hypnosis products actually work.
3. The cost of live sessions. Although it is unrealistic to say that money is no object you may not always want to opt for the cheapest service provider. The general rule of thumb is that in most areas of the country, service prices should be relatively close to that of the competition. If a single company is charging way more than everyone else in their area you should question why this is. On the flip side if everyone else is close in range and a single company is charging way less, there also could be reasons. Maybe they are a new practitioner or maybe business is slow for them and for a reason. Specials and periodic discounts are fine but beware of extreme discount offers, as this just might really be an act of desperation. Remember that just like anything else in life, with hypnosis treatment you get what you pay for. So buyer beware.
4. Do judge a book by its cover. If you visit a doctor or hospital website you will notice that it does not look like a giant advertisement page. Hypnotherapy is a practice just like any therapy practice. A hypnotherapy website may sell products and services but ultimately it should have a professional look to it. Most business websites have one common goal. That is to attract clients and/or business. But to be honest, if you came across a hospital website with a bunch of sale banner ads that scream “lowest price” or “big discounts” on open heart surgery, you would most likely not feel very secure going there. A real Hypnotherapist uses their website as an extended business card and not an advertisement page.
5. Will they answer your questions? Most people who opt to seek hypnosis treatment have many questions about the service and/or treatment itself. Therefore, when you call them on the telephone are they willing to talk to you? Or does it seem like their only goal is to get the appointment booked? A good therapist should take the time to answer your questions and address any concerns up front. If your questions are lengthy and could take excessive time, they may have you come in person rather than do it over the phone. But ultimately, if they are not willing to answer basic questions over the phone move onto another company.
6. The last and most important thing to consider is sincerity. Now this may seem like an obvious thing but you want to choose a company that is genuinely there for your success. For example our company offers 24/7 emergency paging service, our informational article blog, radio shows and free advice to many in need. Now, please do not misunderstand us. We are a “for profit” company and are in business to earn a living. But these are some examples of how we offer a lot of free services and tools to help people because we also care about success. So yes we require paying clients in order for our business to survive. But with us, it is also not just about making a profit.
So in closing, some folks may offer different tips such as asking for references, training certificates and such, which is fine. However, we wanted to provide real tips that can truly help you make better decisions. You should feel confident that you are dealing with a reputable company. However, when was the last time you walked into health clinic with a bad cold and demanded references before letting them treat you and prescribe medication to you? Or when was the last time you went to a dentist and refused to have your teeth cleaned until he or she produced a copy of the dental school diploma? We are fully certified and display our credentials with pride. However, paper certificates do not determine quality nor do they guarantee the lever of service that you receive from any company.
Anyway, we hope these tips and pointers will help you in choosing a professional and qualified Hypnotherapist for your needs.

Hypnosis is Used in Study of Emotions
There is a lot still to be learned about emotions. Approximately 20 years ago, researchers were under the impression that emotions and feelings originated with the heart, not the brain. They also believed that emotions could not be measured with scientific research. In more recent years, researchers have found that emotions can play a major role in a person's overall health. A non-invasive way to study feelings and emotions is through the use of hypnotherapy and brain images (Brain & Emotions Research).
Feelings and emotions are created from one's own perception. When a person feels a specific emotion, it is usually triggered by a thought and this thought is triggered by a past experience. This process can occur consciously or unconsciously without a person realizing it. Examples of emotions include happiness, joy, and contentment which are all positive emotions. Negative emotions include fear, anger, and pain.
Basically, there are good emotions and bad emotions. Emotions reside in the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind tells the conscious mind how to feel. Of course, people would rather feel good emotions instead of bad emotions. The subconscious mind can be accessed using hypnosis to change negative emotions into positive emotions
One study looked at hypnotic suggestion, emotions, and pain. Hypnotic suggestion was used to induce specific emotions. Then, the researchers looked at how the various emotional states affected pain. They found negative emotions such as fear and sadness increased the level of perceived pain in participants. However, when positive emotions were hypnotically induced, the positive emotions that resulted were static and did not continue to increase. The significance of this study is that certain emotions can be created with hypnosis without side effects. The induction of hypnosis gives more control to the researcher and does not create secondary emotions.
Other studies have used hypnosis on the study of emotions using both highly suggestible and low suggestible participants. When highly suggestible participants were given hypnotic suggestions to be 'emotionally numb' or unaffected by either positive or negative emotions, researchers found that they were not susceptible to the emotions and that the hypnotic suggestions were able to produce a numbing affect on their emotions. When comparing highly suggestible people to low suggestible people, the highly suggestible participants experience more emotional numbing (Rainville, 2002).
The study of hypnotic suggestions plays a positive role in studying the science of emotions. It gives researchers control over what emotions to induce. By studying both highly suggestible people and low suggestible people, it gives researchers greater insight into the study of emotion.

Hypnosis Reduces Breast Surgery Side Effects
It's something that's usually associated with stage performances and helping smokers quit, but new research suggests hypnosis may soon be an important tool in helping patients endure common side effects of breast cancer surgery.
Researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York showed that a 15-minute hypnosis session reduced side effects including pain, nausea and emotional distress in patients undergoing breast cancer operations.
The study was published Tuesday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
"If this were a drug, it would be very successful," said lead study author Guy Montgomery, director of the Integrative Behavioral Medicine Program at Mount. Sinai School of Medicine.
Montgomery added that hypnosis carries the added benefit of having no side effects — a quality that makes it an attractive alternative to many drugs used for similar purposes.
Two hundred women who were about to undergo surgeries like a breast biopsy or removal of a suspicious breast lump participated in the study. About half of the women received a 15-minute hypnosis session shortly before their operations. The other women in the study had a consultation with a psychologist before surgery.
The hypnosis session included relaxation exercises that encouraged the women to think of pleasant thoughts, such as a beach on warm day. The women who did not undergo hypnosis talked to a psychologist, who listened and offered supportive comments only.
After their surgeries, the women who had hypnosis experienced less pain, nausea, fatigue, discomfort and emotional upset than their counterparts — and these differences were substantial, the study's authors reported.
Not only did hypnosis reduce the side effects from surgery, but it also did this while reducing the amount of anesthesia used during the surgery. Additionally, the researchers showed that hypnosis decreased the amount of time spent in the operating room by almost 11 minutes, leading to an overall cost savings of about $770 per patient.
Not Just for Breast Cancer Surgery
In addition to being effective, hypnosis may also prove to be a versatile tool. The benefits of hypnosis have been shown in previous research to extend to other procedures as well, including gynecological surgery and coronary artery bypass.
Montgomery said he is hopeful that doctors continue to expand the use of hypnosis in other medical applications.
"This could become part of standard care," he said. However, he added, "it's not a panacea for everything, but rather a tool in the toolbox that we can use to address specific problems."

Are you a Scatterbrain?
When you forget a face or can't find your car keys, it's not because your brain is out of storage space. You just aren't filtering out other thoughts well enough, a new study finds.
The research contradicts a popular notion that memory capacity is solely dependent on how much information you can cram into your noggin.
Rather, it shows that if you can disregard some of what you see, you'll do a better job remembering the visual input you deem important.
Researchers measured brainwaves as objects popped into the minds of the test subjects, who watched colored rectangles appear on a computer screen. In one experiment, researchers told the subjects to focus on two red rectangles and ignore two blue ones.
Without exception, one group had all the rectangles in mind, while another group of individuals -- who were already deemed to have high memory capacity -- consistently excelled at dismissing the blue rectangles.
"People differed systematically, and dramatically, in their ability to keep irrelevant items out of awareness," said study leader Edward Vogel of the University of Oregon.
Vogel thinks of this ability to focus as akin to having a thought bouncer in the brain, managing crowd control. The results, detailed in the Nov. 24 issue of the journal Nature, suggest ways to improve memory abilities.
"Being 'scatterbrained' is often a symptom of a hectic modern life in which we are often overcommitted, overworked, and inundated with information," Vogel told LiveScience. "Given such an environment, it would not be surprising if many of our important cognitive control processes become overtaxed and less efficient. Attentional training may be able to improve one's ability to bounce irrelevant information from awareness."
Not that the lack of a bouncer is necessarily bad thing.
"There may be advantages to having a lot of seemingly irrelevant information coming to mind," Vogel points out. "Being a bit scattered tends to be a trait of highly imaginative people." But wouldn’t it be nice to at least have some control over this?
So, I believe that this is yet another great example of how hypnosis can help people. By utilizing simple relaxation induction’s, that alone can help wipe away cluttered thoughts, which in turn can help increase memory abilities and open many doors to a whole new change in peoples’ lives.

Hypnosis…a friend in these tuff times.
When the typical person thinks about hypnosis they often associate it with the old standbys. You know what I am talking about. Hypnosis sessions are for things like quitting smoking, losing weight and so on. But what a lot of people tend to overlook is the huge benefit that hypnosis can have during this tuff economy.
Now, I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news, but the economy seems to be getting worse each day and not better. And although I normally like to look on the bright side of things, I am afraid that we can almost certainly expect things to get much worse before they begin to get any better. Or at least that is what most politicians are saying. And the fact that they are even admitting this to the public tells you where things currently stand.
Well, now that I've gone and made all my blog readers mad, angry or maybe even shed a tear or two, I do have some good news. The good news is that hypnosis is here and is available to help in the call to action. Now I know that most people are wondering what hypnosis has to do with the economy, what can do for them and how it can help.
The good news for hypnotists is that we practice a profession that can help change people. Now the economy is what it is, but the fact that we can help people improve their own situations means that here stands an opportunity to do some good work.
Below are a few ways that hypnosis can come to the rescue for people during these tuff times.
Let’s face it, we are all getting stressed out even more than ever about these tuff times, about bills, about money, finances and other things. And when it comes to dealing with undo or increased stress levels, hypnosis can help with that.
When we get stressed out, we tend to overwork and neglect our bodies by overeating and running ourselves down. This causes our immune systems to drop and overeating causes our weight to increases. Well, hypnosis can help with that too.
Maybe some folks are dealing with job cutbacks, layoffs or worse…job loss. And the bosses that we do manage to hold onto are expecting twice as much work from us, knowing that our options to look elsewhere for employment are so limited. Because of this our self-esteem or motivation may be low. Well, hypnosis can help with this.
And maybe a person just feels that they would truly like to make every effort in bettering their life and financial situation, but just doesn’t have the drive or confidence to go through with it right now. Well the good news is, hypnosis can help with that too.
Well I could probity go on and on about the positive changes that hypnosis can provide even during these tuff times, but I am sure by now you are getting the picture. So you see, it is nice that even during these challenging times, hypnosis is a profession that can still lift its head up and say…”I am here, I am strong, and I am always available to help you if needed.”

Feel The Power Of Hypnosis
My blog induction and trance
Okay…
Let’s begin by relaxing…let’s take in a nice deep breath…hold for a few seconds…now exhale slowly, and relax…very good…again, take a nice deep breath in…hold it for a few seconds longer than before…now slowly let is out…and as you do…think to yourself…relax…your doing great. With each deep new breath that you take in…you slowly begin to relax…more and more…with every clean…fresh…and relaxing breath that you take in…your tensions… and stress of today begin to slowly melt…away…and now the only thing that exists…the only thing that matters right now…is this blog…nothing else…no one else can speak to you…but this blog…and with every word you read…you become deeper and deeper, relaxed.
I am now speaking to your inner self. The inner self, and part of you that enjoys reading blogs on the Internet. This part of you enjoys the wealth of information that blogs provide. Yet this part of you also understands that although this blog is new, it will soon be filled with a verity of information. And so, you will continue to check back often…you can, check back often…you will, check back often…you must, check back often…This blog is a friendly place. This blog is a safe place. You can, check back often…you will, check back often…you must, check back often. You understand that every journey in life begins with taking a single step. You know that blogs are a great source of information and entertainment. So you can, check back often. You will, check back often. You must, check back often.
Now I am going to count slowly from 1 to 5. And as I do, with each number…you will become more and more, awake. When I reach the number 5 you will be totally, wide-awake and feeling refreshed. One…you will continue to review this blog every so often…two…you will be attracted to reading this blog often…three…you will remember everything that you read in this blog today …four…you are starting to wake up…five…you are now wide awake…wide awake now…wake up…wake up…your feeling great…you are now wide awake.
I know that most people understand that this was just for humor. But just in case, I wanted to explain that this is not a real script. It was simply for fun. Thanks for reading.

My first blog blessing!!
I am in the process of shifting some of my Internet stuff around, please be patient…
I figured I would lick this off with my first hypnosis blog here.
Often times when I discuss hypnosis with people, I often refer to an analogy that I sort of came up which I call the “Cassette Tape Recorder.” This often helps me explain to people why hypnosis is not always an instant eraser like same people may think of it.
This is especially helpful to assist me in explaining to those who have maybe tried hypnosis in the past, and for some reason or other, it did not work as quickly as they thought it would. Therefore, they now have the notion that in general, hypnosis does not work or at least it doesn’t work for them.
I begin by telling them to picture the human mind as a cassette tape. Each time they perform a pattern or a bad habit, a message gets recorded in their mind, or in this case…on the cassette tape. Now if they continue to perform the bad habit for a long period of time, the cassette tape volume grows larger and larger.
Now, to break a bad habit which a person has only been doing for a very short period of time would be rather easy. Just the same as erasing a message or two off of a cassette would not take very long. But on the other hand, if you needed to erase years upon years of bad habits, which would amount to a box full of cassette tapes, this will naturally take much longer.
After I explain this to people they suddenly understand that sometimes, even hypnosis is a process and it does not magically erase every bad thing that has happened in your lifetime, in a single one-hour session.
Anyway, there will be more blogs coming soon so please continue to check in.
